A few weeks back, my beloved vintage 3 Series BMW died.
I loved this car. For the last four years, it has been, in spite of numerous trips to the repair shop and various peccadillos – the ultimate driving machine. It had 285,000 miles on the odometer and was seemingly still going strong. However, one day it wouldn’t start and after towing it in to the local repair shop, I was presented with an estimate – just to get it running again – that was 2.5 times the current Kelly Blue Book value. That was it. Love has it’s limits.
So, instead of trying to fob it off on some other unwitting person, I donated it to Wisconsin Public Radio through their “Car Talk Vehicle Donation Program” and a few days later, off it
